Math helps us solve hard puzzles.

Sometimes, we need to find the total value along a path. This path can be a closed loop. We call this a contour integral. To solve it, we look at the space inside the loop.

Inside the loop, there may be special points. These points are called singularities. At each point, there is a value called a residue. The residue theorem says we can find the total value of the path. We do this by adding up the residues. We must also count how many times the path winds around each point.

This tool is very useful. It helps us solve real integrals. It can also help us find the sum of many numbers in a series. For example, it can help solve the Basel problem. This is a famous math puzzle. The theorem works by turning a straight line into a large loop. We then use the residues to find the answer easily.
