He makes tools that help humans and machines work together.

One of his big ideas was a reading machine. It uses a way called optical character recognition, or OCR. This lets a computer recognize text in many different fonts. The machine reads the words out loud. This helps people who are blind understand what is written. Later, he made a smaller version that fits in a pocket.

Ray also changed how people make music. He built machines called synthesizers. These tools can mimic the sounds of real instruments. A single person can use them to play a whole orchestra. He even won a Grammy Award for this work.

He also builds tools for learning. These help students with reading or writing. Ray works at Google now. He helps them teach computers to understand human language. He is very hopeful about the future. He thinks new technology will help people live much longer lives.
