A mix of both is called a racemate. This mix has equal amounts of each shape. In a mix, the shapes cancel each other out. This means they do not turn light in any way.

Some medicines are made this way. A mix can be easy and cheap to make. But sometimes, one shape works and the other does not. Scientists can study these shapes to make better medicine.
