Long ago, a group of people ruled Iran.
Long ago, a group called the Qajars ruled Iran.
After him, his nephew became the new leader. The Qajars ruled for a very long time. But they faced hard times with other lands. Russia and Britain wanted power in Iran. This caused many big changes for the people.
Later, the people asked for a new way to rule. They wanted a group to help make laws. This was a big step for the country. The Qajar rule ended in 1925. A new group of leaders took over then.
The Qajar dynasty ruled Iran from 1789 to 1925.

During this time, Iran faced many big challenges. The Russian Empire and the British Empire wanted more power. Russia took some land in the Caucasus region. In 1907, Britain and Russia made a deal. They split Iran into zones of influence. This meant they had a lot of control over the land.
In the early 1900s, the people wanted change. They started the Persian Constitutional Revolution. They wanted a parliament called the Majles to make laws. This was a way to give people more of a say. However, Russia stepped in to stop some of these changes. Finally, in 1925, a military leader named Reza Shah took power. This ended the Qajar rule and started a new family of leaders.
Qajar Iran was a powerful state that lasted from 1789 to 1925.
The story of the Qajars began with a leader named Agha Mohammad Khan. He was a chieftain of the Qajar tribe from northern Iran. After a leader named Karim Khan Zand died in 1779, there was a struggle for power. Agha Mohammad Khan fought his rivals to bring the different lands together. He was officially crowned as the Shah, or king, in 1796.
As the years passed, the Qajar leaders faced hard jobs from big foreign empires. The Russian Empire and the British Empire both wanted more control in the region. In the early 1800s, Russia took land in the Caucasus from the Qajars. This included places like modern-day Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
In the early 20th century, many people in Iran wanted a new way to govern. They started the Persian Constitutional Revolution to create a parliament called the Majles.
Eventually, the long rule of the Qajars came to an end. In 1921, a military coup changed the leadership in the country. Four years later, in 1925, a military officer named Reza Shah took power.
Qajar Iran, often called the Guarded Domains of Iran, was the Iranian state ruled by the Qajar dynasty from 1789 to 1925.
The Qajar dynasty began as a Turkic tribe from northern Iran. Legends suggest they may have arrived in the 11th century. Some historians believe they were originally part of the larger Bayat tribe. By the late 15th century, the Qajars had resettled in the Azerbaijan region. They became part of the Qizilbash confederacy, which served as the main military force for the Safavid dynasty. Over many years, the Qajars grew from a group of shepherd-warriors into a powerful ruling family. They held important roles as diplomats and governors for the Safavid shahs. By the late 1700s, they were ready to take control of the entire nation.
The dynasty rose to power through the leadership of Agha Mohammad Khan. After the death of Karim Khan Zand in 1779, a power struggle began. Agha Mohammad Khan defeated all his rivals from the Zand and Afsharid dynasties. He successfully unified the various parts of Iran under his control. In 1796, he was formally crowned as the Shah. He established Tehran as the new capital city.
During the early 19th century, the Qajar state faced major territorial losses. The Russian Empire expanded into the Caucasus region. This resulted in the loss of lands that are now parts of Georgia, Dagestan, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.
Foreign influence became a constant challenge to Qajar sovereignty. Both the British and Russian empires sought control over Iranian affairs. In 1907, the two empires signed the Anglo-Russian Convention.
Internal political changes also reshaped the nation in the early 20th century. The Persian Constitutional Revolution sought to limit the power of the monarchy. This movement aimed to establish a constitutional monarchy with an elected parliament called the Majles. This revolution eventually led to the deposition of Mohammad Ali Shah Qajar. He was replaced by Ahmad Shah Qajar. However, these reforms faced heavy resistance. The Russian Empire intervened to reverse many of the constitutional changes. The country's stability was further damaged by World War I and invasions by the Ottoman Empire.
The end of the Qajar era came through military and political shifts. In 1921, a Persian coup d'état changed the direction of the government.
