Modern science has revealed much more about the physical appearance of Pterodactylus. Adult specimens had long, thin skulls containing about 90 narrow, conical teeth. These teeth were unique because they extended back into the jaw. Most of its relatives had teeth that were more uniform in size. The skull and jaws of Pterodactylus were also straight. This differs from other related ctenochasmatids, which had upwardly curved jaws.
