Prelude (music)

arts Maturity 7-9 Next article →

A prelude is a short piece of music.

It can start a longer song. It can also be its own piece. Some people play them to warm up. This helps them check their instrument.

Long ago, players used them to test their strings. Some preludes are played on a bell instrument. These are called carillons.

Many people write sets of these songs. They might use all the different musical keys. This makes the music sound very varied.

It is a fun way to make music.
