Pope Martin V was a leader of the Catholic Church.

Before he was leader, his name was Oddone Colonna. He was born in Italy around the year 1369. He was part of a very famous family from Rome.

For a long time, the Church was split. There were different leaders at once. This was called the Western Schism. Martin V helped end this split in 1417. He was elected at a meeting called the Council of Constance. He took the name Martin to honor a saint.

Martin worked hard to fix the city of Rome. He helped fix old churches and bridges. He even helped start a time of new art. He also started a school called the University of Louvain. This school is in a place we now call Belgium.

He dealt with many hard things. He spoke about wars and different groups of people. He also made rules about money and loans. Martin V died in Rome in 1431. He was 62 years old. He is buried in a large church in Rome.
