Artists use these drawings to share an opinion. They often use caricatures, which are drawings that change how people look. This can make a leader look silly or strange.

Artists use humor and satire, or funny ways to mock things, to show problems. They might point out unfair leaders or bad rules.

These drawings became popular in England long ago. James Gillray was a very famous artist. People call him the father of the political cartoon. He used his art to tease kings and generals. Later, a magazine called Punch helped make the term "cartoon" famous.

In America, Thomas Nast was a very powerful artist. He used his drawings to fight against a corrupt group called the Tweed Ring. His work was so strong it helped change how people voted. Today, you can find these cartoons in many newspapers. They use symbols to help us understand big news. They can make us laugh while we think about the world.
