Most poems are about gods and myths. Some poems tell stories about brave heroes. One very important book is called Codex Regius. This book was written in the 13th century. It contains 31 poems. It is a major source for Norse myths. Many famous writers like J.R.R. Tolkien used these stories. Some poems might be older than others. Scholars study the words to find the age. They also look at where the poems came from. Some poems may come from Scandinavia. Others may come from Iceland. Some stories mention people like Attila. This helps experts guess when they were made.
