A writer named William Langland likely wrote it. It is written in a special way. He used verse that does not rhyme. Instead, he used alliteration. This means he used words that start with the same sound.

The story follows a man named Will. Will has many dream visions. In these dreams, he meets many people. Some people represent ideas. For example, he meets characters named Dowel, Dobet, and Dobest. These names mean "Do-well," "Do-better," and "Do-best." Will wants to find the true Christian life. He also meets a man named Piers. Piers is a ploughman who works a field.
