He was known as the "King of Soho." Soho is a famous area in London. Raymond owned many adult clubs and magazines. He also bought a huge amount of property. By 1994, he was the richest person in the UK. Some people believed his wealth was worth billions of dollars. He owned about 400 properties in the Soho area alone.

Raymond's business grew through several different steps. First, he opened the Raymond Revuebar in 1958. This was a private club in Walker's Court. He wanted to make a better club than others. Next, he started publishing magazines for men. He launched the magazine King in 1964. Later, he took over the magazine Men Only in 1971. He also published titles like Escort and Mayfair. He used his money to buy many buildings. This helped his company, Soho Estates, grow very large.

Raymond had an interesting early life before he was famous. He was born in Liverpool in 1925. His father was a lorry driver named Frank Joseph Quinn. When Raymond was five, his father left the family. Raymond was raised by his mother, Maud McKeown. He went to school at St Francis Xavier's College. During World War II, he moved to Glossop. He worked as an office boy for a canal. He also served in the Royal Air Force. He worked as a switchboard operator and a bandsman.

There were many specific details about his career. In 1961, his club was fined £5,000 by a magistrate. This happened because of a rule about a bell. He also owned the Windmill Theatre. He bought the lease for it in 1974. In 1967, he joined the Grand Order of Water Rats. This group honors people in the entertainment industry. He was also a target of two extortion attempts. One attempt involved people pretending to be from the IRA. He lived in a penthouse near the Ritz Hotel.

Raymond's life had both big successes and sad moments. He had a daughter named Debbie who helped him. She was the editor-in-chief of his magazines. Sadly, Debbie died in 1992 from an accidental overdose. After this, Raymond became a recluse and lived quietly. He died in 2008 at the age of 82. He died from prostate cancer and respiratory failure. A movie called "The Look of Love" was made about him. It was released in 2013 and starred Steve Coogan.
