Paul grew up in Wisconsin. His twin brother, Morgan, is also a gymnast. They both competed in the Olympics together. Paul is a great athlete who can do many different moves. He can perform well on the floor and the rings. He is also great on the parallel bars and the horizontal bar.

One time, there was a big debate about his score. A judge made a mistake with another gymnast's score. This mistake changed who won the gold medal. People even booed the judges at the games. However, a court looked at the rules. They decided that Paul would keep his gold medal.

Paul tried to come back to gymnastics later. He wanted to go to the 2008 Olympics. He hurt his hand and had to have surgery. He used a metal plate and screws to help it heal. He eventually had to stop competing. In 2016, he joined the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
