Even numbers can be split into two equal groups. Odd numbers cannot. This rule only works for whole numbers. It does not work for parts of a number.

Zero is an even number. You can tell if a big number is even or odd by its last digit. If it ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8, it is even. If it ends in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9, it is odd.

Even and odd numbers follow patterns. If you count, one is even and the next is odd.
