geography Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Panzhihua is a large city in China. It sits in the far south of Sichuan province. The city is located where the Jinsha and Yalong rivers meet. These rivers flow into the Yangtze River.

The land is very rugged. It has many steep hills and high mountains. Much of the city was built on this mountain land. One big steel factory was even built on a mountain slope. Workers had to carve massive steps into the hill to make a flat base. They used a cable system to move things around the steep ground.

Panzhihua is famous for its mining. It has one of the largest mines in the country. The city has huge amounts of minerals. It holds the world's largest supply of titanium. It also has a lot of vanadium. These metals are used to make steel.

The weather is unique here. Summers are long, hot, and wet. Winters are short and mild. This is different from other parts of the province. There is also a special forest. It has many Cycas plants. These plants are very old and grow high in the mountains.
