People wrote a name on a piece of clay. They put the pieces in a pile. The person with the most votes had to leave. This person had to stay away for ten years.

This was not a trial for a crime. It was just a way to pick a leader to leave. The person could keep their money and homes. After ten years, they could come back home. It was a way for many people to make a choice together.
