Ode

arts Maturity 11-13 Next article →

An ode is a special kind of poem. It is used to praise a person or an event. Long ago in Greece, people sang these poems. They played music while they sang. They used a stringed instrument called a lyre.

Some odes have three parts. Performers move across a stage to show these parts. This helps them tell a story. Other odes use many small groups of lines. These poems often talk about love or friends.

Odes show very big feelings. They use beautiful and sincere words. People still write them today. They are a wonderful way to celebrate the world.
