Some non-fiction tells us how to do things. You might read a recipe or a manual. Other books tell us about people. These are called biographies or memoirs.

A biography tells the story of a person's life. A memoir is a story from a person's own life.

Non-fiction writers use many tools to help you. They use maps, charts, and diagrams. They also use headings and bold words. These parts make it easy to find facts. Some writers use news stories or essays. They may even write books to help you learn a new skill. Even if a writer has an opinion, they try to be fair. They use good reasons to help you understand. Some people call special non-fiction "creative nonfiction." This means the writing is very beautiful and smart.
