Native Son is a famous book by Richard Wright.

It tells a sad story set in Chicago. The story takes place in the 1930s.

The main character is a 20-year-old man named Bigger Thomas. He lives in a poor area called a ghetto. Bigger is very poor and lives in a small room. He gets a job as a driver for the Dalton family. The Daltons are white and very rich.

During the story, Bigger makes terrible choices. He kills Mary Dalton, the daughter of his boss. He also kills his girlfriend, Bessie Mears. These crimes lead to a big trial in court.

A lawyer named Boris Max helps Bigger. Max says the world was not fair to him. He says the rules of society caused Bigger's problems. He argues that the way people treated Black Americans led to this.

The book is very serious. It shows how racism can change a person's life. It is a deep look at how people live and suffer.
