Today, Nashik is a powerful center for industry and economy. It is a major hub for defence and aerospace manufacturing. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has a plant in Ozar. This plant manufactures and overhauls aircraft for the Indian Air Force.
Agriculture is another vital part of the local economy. Nashik is famously called "The Wine Capital of India." This reputation comes from its massive grape production. 

Cultural landmarks provide a glimpse into the ancient past. The Trirashmi Caves, also called the Nashik Caves, are very important. These 24 caves were carved between the 1st century BCE and the 2nd century CE. They represent Hinayana Buddhist caves.
