Long ago, the Moro people had their own states. They had leaders called Sultans. They fought to stay free from Spanish rule. Later, they fought for their rights in the Philippines. This led to many years of fighting. Groups like the MNLF and MILF led these fights. They wanted to rule themselves.

Peace talks helped change things. In 2018, a new area was made. It is called the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region. This area has more power to make its own rules.
