Mordecai Kaplan was a Jewish leader. He was born in a land called the Russian Empire. Later, he moved to New York City. He was a rabbi and a teacher. He wanted to help his faith fit into the modern world. This helped people find new ways to be Jewish. He even started a new group called Reconstructionism. He also helped start the first bat mitzvah in the United States. He wrote many books and kept a very large journal. He lived to be 102 years old. It is interesting to see how ideas change over time.
