Molloy (novel)

arts Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Molloy is a famous book by Samuel Beckett. He first wrote it in French in 1951. He then translated it into English himself. This book is part of a set of three books. People call this set "The Trilogy."

The story is split into two parts. The first part follows a man named Molloy. He lives in his mother's room. He tries to find her, but he forgets his goal often. He uses a bicycle and crutches to move. He even has a strange habit of sucking on small stones.

The second part is about a detective named Jacques Moran. He is on a mission to find Molloy. As Moran travels, his body and mind begin to fail. The two men seem very much alike.

This book is special because it is very different. It does not have a normal plot or many scenes. Some say it is like an abstract painting made of words. Many writers say it changed how they think about books. It is a deep story about life and the struggle to keep going.
