A mojito is a famous drink from Cuba. It is a cold punch. It is very popular in the summer. People love its sweet and citrus taste.

There are five main parts in a mojito. It uses white rum and sugar. It also needs lime juice and mint. Finally, it gets soda water. To make it, you mash mint leaves with a tool called a muddler. You must be gentle. You want to bruise the leaves to let out their oils. Do not shred them. Then, you add the rum and stir it. This helps the sugar dissolve.

In Cuba, people often use a special mint. It has a citrus smell. Other places use spearmint. People make many types of this drink. A "virgin mojito" has no alcohol. It is also called a "nojito." Some people add fruit like strawberry or passionfruit. Some use different spirits like tequila or gin.

Many think the drink started in Havana. Some say it was a medicine. It used lime and sugar to help people stay well. The famous writer Ernest Hemingway loved it too. He even wrote about it on a bar wall.
