It sits in a quiet park in the Karoo. This quiet area helps the tools hear space better. MeerKAT uses 64 large antennas to work.

Each dish is 13.5 meters wide. The name MeerKAT means "more of KAT." This was because the project grew much larger. It started as a smaller plan with only 20 parts. The government added more money to build 64 parts instead.

The dishes work together as one big tool. They catch radio signals from deep space. They even showed a close look at our Milky Way. This image showed the area near a black hole. MeerKAT is a precursor for a much bigger project. This project is called the Square Kilometre Array, or SKA. Later, MeerKAT will join 133 more dishes. This will make a massive group of 197 antennas. This big group will help us study the stars.
