Imagine a tiny being with a door.

Maxwell's demon
Maxwell's demon

This being sorts bits of air. It lets fast bits go one way. It lets slow bits go the other way. This makes one side hot. It makes the other side cold.

This idea was from a man named James Maxwell. He thought about this in a letter. He called the being a tiny person. Later, others called it a demon.

Scientists use this to study heat. They want to know how things work. A real demon cannot break the rules of heat. It would need energy to work. Sorting the air bits takes work too. This keeps the rules safe. It is a very smart puzzle.
