Maternity den

life science Maturity 5-7 Next article →

A den is a safe home for new babies.

Mothers use them to hide and care for young. Some dens are under the ground. Others are in snow or under rocks. A bear may sleep in a snow cave.

A fox may use a hollow log. They often line the den with dry leaves. This helps keep the babies safe and warm. Some animals even have help. Wild dogs may guard the den. It is a very special place for a family.
