Martin Bashir was a famous British journalist. He worked for many news groups. He worked for the BBC and ITV. He also worked in New York. He was an anchor for ABC's Nightline. He was a host for MSNBC.

In 1995, Bashir did a big job. He interviewed Diana, Princess of Wales. Many people watched it on TV. But there was a problem. Bashir used fake bank statements to get the interview. He used these papers to trick the Princess's brother, Earl Spencer. He wanted to win the family's trust.

A man named Matt Wiessler made the fake papers. He did this on Bashir's orders. Later, a judge named Lord Dyson led an inquiry. An inquiry is a careful study to find the truth. The study found that Bashir was dishonest. He broke the rules for news makers.

Bashir left the BBC in May 2021. He said he had health reasons. He was one of five children. His brother died in 1991. Bashir said his brother helped him face hard times.
