Marine mammal parks are special places for people to visit. They are like a mix of an aquarium and an amusement park.

You can see animals like dolphins, sea lions, and whales in big water tanks. These animals often perform in shows for the public to watch.

These parks have a long history. One park in New York opened in 1895 with 40 sea lions. Another place in Florida started as a tank for making movies. Later, it became a place for people to visit.

In 1961, a park near Los Angeles showed an orca for the first time.

Many people have different ideas about these parks. Some groups say the animals need more freedom. They say the tanks are too small. In the wild, orcas swim about 100 miles every day. In parks, they cannot swim as deep or as far.

This can cause stress for the animals.

Other people say parks help with science and learning. Some parks join groups to help keep animals healthy. There are also laws to protect animals under human care. One law is the Marine Mammal Protection Act. It was signed in 1972 to stop the capture of these animals.
