The Hubble classification is the standard system used to organize galaxies by their shapes. Along with Magellanic spirals, de Vaucouleurs also introduced the term Magellanic irregular (Im) galaxies. Magellanic spirals are often found near much larger spiral galaxies. This proximity is a common trait for many dwarf galaxies. For example, the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) are located near the Milky Way.
