This high level of wealth is linked to its role in banking. The city is also a major center for European government services. The Council of the European Union meets here for three months every year. This brings many people and activity to the city's administrative districts.
Luxembourg City is divided into twenty-four different districts. These districts cover the entire commune. Some areas are historic, like the Grund, which sits in the valley.
