Luis Alberto Spinetta was a famous musician from Argentina. Many people called him "El Flaco," which means "skinny" in Spanish. He was a singer, a guitarist, a composer, and a poet. He is known as a founder of Argentine rock music. This style was one of the first to use the Spanish language for rock.

Because of his great work, Argentina celebrates his birthday on January 23rd. This day is called "Día Nacional del Músico," or National Musician's Day. He lived a life full of art and many different musical sounds.

Spinetta learned to love music at a very young age. He grew up in the Núñez neighborhood of Buenos Aires. His father, Luis Santiago, was an amateur tango singer. Because of his family, Spinetta heard many types of music. He even began singing at family gatherings when he was only four years old. He loved to imitate other singers and copy their sounds. He even wrote songs before he learned how to play an instrument.

As he grew up, Spinetta started many famous bands. In 1969, he recorded the first album with his band Almendra. This band became successful very quickly. Later, he formed a band called Pescado Rabioso. This group had a much more powerful sound. In 1973, he released a solo album named Artaud. This album was named after the writer Antonin Artaud. He also led bands called Invisible and Spinetta Jade.

His music was always changing and growing. He mixed rock with other styles like jazz and tango. In the 1980s, his band Spinetta Jade created a new sound. This sound blended jazz and rock in a way people had not heard before. He also worked with other famous musicians like Charly García. In 2010, he celebrated 40 years of music with a massive concert. It lasted five and a half hours at Vélez Sarsfield Stadium. About 40,000 fans came to watch him perform.

Spinetta left behind a huge collection of music and art. He won the Gardel de Oro award in 2009. He also won the Platinum Konex award for best rock soloist. People in Argentina still honor him today. There is a statue of him in the Villa Urquiza neighborhood. An underpass is also named after him in Buenos Aires. In 2012, he died from lung cancer at the age of 62. Following his last wish, his ashes were scattered in the Río de la Plata.
