Linguistic description

language culture Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Some people study how we talk. They look at real ways we speak. They do not say how we should talk. Instead, they watch how we use words every day.

These workers listen to many people. They might hear songs or stories. They may even watch videos. They use these to learn new words.

One way to learn is with pictures. A worker shows a picture to a person. Then they ask the person to describe it. This helps them learn the language.

They also use fill in the blank tasks. This shows how words change in a sentence. This work can take many years.

In the end, they make a big list of words. This list helps others learn. It is a big job!
