This theorem was later fully proven by a man named David Hilbert. Kronecker also worked on how numbers can be grouped together. He studied things called elliptic functions. He even had a special idea he called his "dearest dream of youth." Many math tools today carry his name, like the Kronecker delta. 
Kronecker's work changed how we look at the world of math. He helped people understand how to use divisors in algebra. His ideas were so important that they were used again much later. He was honored by many groups, like the Royal Society in 1884. Even an asteroid, number 25624, is named after him. He died in Berlin on December 29, 1891. He is buried in the Alter St Matthäus Kirchhof cemetery.

This estate had been built by his mother's uncle, who was a former banker. He focused on these business responsibilities for several years. During this time, he married his cousin, Fanny Prausnitzer, and they had six children. Although he was busy with business, he continued to study mathematics as a hobby. He maintained a correspondence with his former teacher, Kummer. In 1853, he published a memoir regarding the algebraic solvability of equations. This work extended the theories of Évariste Galois.
Financial stability from his business allowed him to return to Berlin in 1855. He became a private scholar and a close friend of Karl Weierstrass. In 1861, he was elected a member of the Berlin Academy. This membership allowed him to teach classes at the University of Berlin starting in 1862. He was offered the mathematics chair at the University of Göttingen in 1866. This position was previously held by famous mathematicians like Carl Friedrich Gauss. However, Kronecker refused the offer because he preferred his position at the Academy. He did not become an ordinary professor at the university until 1883.
Kronecker made several major contributions to mathematical theory. In 1850, he solved the quintic equation by applying group theory. He also formulated the Kronecker–Weber theorem in an 1853 paper. While he did not provide a definitive proof, David Hilbert later proved it completely. He introduced the structure theorem for finitely generated abelian groups. In the field of algebraic number theory, he introduced the theory of divisors. He chose this approach because he did not find Richard Dedekind's theory of ideals acceptable. Although Dedekind's method became more common, Kronecker's divisors were useful and were revived in the 20th century. He also studied elliptic functions and proposed a generalization called his "liebster Jugendtraum," or "dearest dream of youth."
His philosophical stances often led to intense mathematical conflicts. He was a critic of Georg Cantor's work on set theory. He also rejected a concept of continuous, nowhere differentiable functions proposed by Karl Weierstrass. These disagreements were significant enough to strain his relationship with Weierstrass. In 1888, the tension was so great that Weierstrass almost left the university. Kronecker's work also touched on the concept of continuity. He helped reconstruct the form of irrational numbers within real numbers. His legacy is visible in many modern mathematical terms. These include the Kronecker delta, the Kronecker product, and the Kronecker symbol.
Kronecker's impact reached far beyond his own research papers. He supervised many important students, including Kurt Hensel and Adolf Kneser. His honors included membership in the French Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society. In 1884, he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society. Even the scientific community in space honors him, as asteroid 25624 is named after him. Kronecker died in Berlin on December 29, 1891. This was a few months after his wife passed away. In his final year, he converted to Christianity. He is buried at the Alter St Matthäus Kirchhof cemetery in Berlin-Schöneberg.
