Leo McCarey was a famous film director.

He lived in Los Angeles, California. He worked on nearly 200 films. Many of these films were funny. He was a master of screwball comedy. These are fast and silly movies.

Leo had a very special way of working. He often changed the script while filming. He would sit at a piano to find new ideas. This helped his movies feel fresh and real. One actor said most of the work happened on set. This style is called improvisation. It means making things up in the moment.

He helped create famous comedy teams. He worked with Laurel and Hardy. He also worked with the Marx Brothers. Leo won two Academy Awards for Best Director. He won for the film The Awful Truth. He also won for the film Going My Way. That movie was about a priest. It was a very big hit.

Some of his movies were more serious. He made films about faith and social issues. His film An Affair to Remember is still popular today. People still enjoy his work many years later.
