Kingsley Amis was a famous English writer. He wrote many novels, poems, and short stories. He was also a teacher of English.

Amis was known for writing funny stories. These are called satires. A satire uses humor to show silly things. His first book, Lucky Jim, was a huge success. It was translated into 20 different languages. This book helped start a new style of writing. People called this the campus novel. It tells stories about life at a college.

Amis loved science fiction too. He even wrote books about James Bond. He used a secret name to write one Bond book. He called himself Robert Markham.

He was a very hard worker. Every morning, he wrote at least 500 words. He did not let his love of pubs stop his work. He kept his writing and his drinking separate. He won the Booker Prize for his book The Old Devils. This is a very big honor for any writer. His son, Martin Amis, also became a famous writer.
