Kinematics is the study of how things move.

Kinematics
Kinematics

It is a branch of physics and math. Scientists use it to describe motion. They look at where an object is. They also look at how fast it moves. Kinematics does not look at the forces that cause movement. This is different from dynamics. Dynamics studies the forces that push or pull objects.

Kinematics uses three main ideas to describe motion. First is position. This is where an object is located. Second is velocity. This is the speed and direction of an object. Third is acceleration. This is the rate at which velocity changes.

Relative velocity
Relative velocity

People use kinematics in many ways. It helps engineers design robot arms. It also helps them build engines. Scientists use it to study stars in space. It can even help us understand the human skeleton. Even the scholar Ibn al-Haytham studied this long ago. He looked at how bodies move compared to when they are still.
