He is best known for making documentary films and television series. These projects often look at the history and culture of the United States. His work helps people learn about the past through moving stories. He wants to make people feel close to those who lived long ago. By sharing these stories, he tries to bring the past back to life. His films often focus on finding hope during very difficult times.

Burns has a very special way of making his films.

He uses a method where the camera moves across still pictures. This creates a smooth, flowing feeling even without moving video. He also uses famous actors to read words from old writings. This is called narration, and it helps tell the story. These voices help the viewer hear directly from the past. This unique style is often called the "Ken Burns effect."

Ken was born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 29, 1953.

His father studied how people live in different cultures. Ken grew up moving to many different places. He lived in France, Delaware, and Michigan.
