Justiciability

society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Courts have rules about their work. They cannot solve every single problem. A court must have a real fight to solve. This is called a case or a controversy.

Sometimes a fight is not ready yet. This can happen if no one is hurt. Other times, a fight is already over. The court cannot help if the problem is gone.

Some things are not for courts. These are called political questions. Leaders in the government decide these things. This keeps the different parts of government separate.

Courts also check who is in the fight. The people must have a real reason to be there. This helps the court stay fair to everyone.

Rules help courts do their best work. They focus on the right tasks.
