At first, he did not find much success with his writing. He even used a fake name, John Sinjon, for his first four books. He wanted to keep his writing a secret from his father. He studied the work of other great writers to learn their skills. It took him five years of writing to master the basics. Eventually, he found his true voice through hard work and study.
