Mohammed Emwazi was a man from the United Kingdom. He was born in Kuwait in 1988. His family moved to London when he was six years old. He went to school in London and later went to a university. He studied business and computers. After he finished school, he worked as a salesman. His boss thought he was a very good worker.

Later, Emwazi joined a violent group called the Islamic State. He appeared in videos that showed him hurting captives. These captives were people from many different places. Some were journalists and some were aid workers. Because he had a British accent, his captors called him "John." News reporters later called him "Jihadi John."

Many police groups worked hard to find him. They used voice tools and video studies to learn his identity. In 2015, officials found out who he was. He was in a place called Syria. A drone strike hit him in Raqqa, Syria. This ended his life. His death was confirmed by the group he joined in early 2016.
