Jean is most famous for a very long poem. He continued a work called the Roman de la Rose. He took the work of Guillaume de Lorris and added to it. His part of the poem has about 19,000 lines. Most experts think he wrote this between the years 1268 and 1285. Some think it was written even later, near the end of the 13th century. The poem is a satire. A satire is a way of writing to mock or make fun of things. He used his words to poke fun at kings and the church.

He knew a lot about science and many other subjects. Because of this, he put useful information into his poetry. He also included many quotes from famous authors from long ago. This made his work very popular in the 13th and 14th centuries.

S. Ellis and Charles Dahlberg translated it into Modern English. Jean de Meun is still considered one of the greatest poets of the Middle Ages. He showed that poetry could be both funny and full of knowledge. His life and work help us see how people thought a long time ago.
