James C. Scott was a famous thinker. He studied how people live together. He was a political scientist and an anthropologist. These are people who study power and culture.

Scott spent much time studying small groups. He looked at how farmers resist being ruled. He wrote a book called "Weapons of the Weak." In this book, he explained how people use quiet ways to fight back. They do not always use big fights. Sometimes they use small acts to stay free.

He also studied how big states work. He wrote a book called "Seeing Like a State." He showed how governments try to control everything. He said these plans often fail. This is because they do not understand local life.

Scott lived in Connecticut. He even had a farm with sheep and cattle. He taught at Yale University for many years. He died in 2024 at the age of 87. His work helps us understand how people find freedom. Many people still read his books today.
