Many people call him "the Golden Bear." This nickname came from his high school mascot.

Nicklaus is one of the best golfers ever. He won 117 professional tournaments. He also won 18 major championships. This is a huge record. He was the first player to win a "career grand slam" twice. He started playing golf when he was ten years old. He was very good as a young boy. He won many titles before he turned pro. He went to Ohio State University. He studied insurance to help support his family.
