Milat would pick up travelers along the Hume Highway. He told them he would give them a ride. Instead, he took them to the Belanglo State Forest. He killed them there.

For a long time, many people were missing. In 1992, runners found two bodies in the forest. Later, more people were found in the same woods. The police set up a special group called Task Force Air to find the killer.

A man named Paul Onions helped the police. He lived in the United Kingdom. He told them about a man named "Bill" who tried to rob him. Paul said the man looked like Milat. This helped the police find the truth. In 1994, police arrested Milat. They found weapons and items from the victims in his home. In 1996, a jury found him guilty. He was sent to prison for life.
