A long time ago, the world changed.
Then came a happy time. People used new things. They had cars and radios. They also had electric lights.
But then, life got hard.
New ideas grew too. Some leaders gained power. This led to more trouble.
It was a time of big changes. The world was not the same.
The interwar period was a time of big changes. It lasted from 1918 to 1939. This was the time between two world wars.
At first, many old empires fell apart. This created many new countries in Europe. Some were small, like Latvia. Others were larger, like Poland.
Then came the Roaring Twenties. This was a time of wealth for many. People used new things like cars and radios. They also had electric lights. Women gained more rights too. In the United States, women could vote in 1920.
But things changed again. The Great Depression began in 1929. It was a very bad economic time. Many people lost their jobs.
New leaders also rose to power. In Italy and Germany, new groups took control. These groups wanted to grow their land. This led to more tension. The period ended when Germany invaded Poland in 1939. This started World War II.
The interwar period was a time of massive change. It lasted from November 11, 1918, to September 1, 1939. This era sat between the two World Wars.
Many large empires fell apart after the first World War. The Russian, Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and German Empires were all dismantled.
In the 1920s, many people experienced a time of wealth called the Roaring Twenties.
This era of prosperity ended with the Great Depression. It began in 1929 after a stock market crash in the United States.
As the economy struggled, new political leaders rose to power. Fascism grew in countries like Italy and Germany.
The interwar period refers to the era between the two World Wars. It began on 11 November 1918, when the fighting of World War I ended. It concluded on 1 September 1939, when Germany invaded Poland.
Following World War I, the global political map changed significantly. Four major empires were dismantled: the Russian, Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and German Empires.

The 1920s were characterized by a period of prosperity known as the Roaring Twenties. This era saw significant social and cultural trends, especially in cities like New York, Paris, and London.
This era of economic success ended abruptly with the Great Depression. This worldwide economic downturn began after the United States stock market crashed on 29 October 1929, known as Black Tuesday.
As economic conditions worsened, new and aggressive political movements emerged. In Russia, the October Revolution had already established the rise of communism. In Italy, Benito Mussolini and the National Fascist Party came to power after the 1922 March on Rome.

Diplomacy during this time focused on resolving wartime issues and preventing future conflict. The League of Nations was established to maintain peace, but it faced many challenges. Nations attempted disarmament through various conferences. For example, the Washington Naval Conference of 1921 helped set limits on capital ships. Britain also led the 1927 Geneva Naval Conference and the 1930 London Conference. However, the refusal of countries like Japan, Germany, Italy, and the USSR to participate eventually caused naval disarmament efforts to collapse. By 1936, the focus shifted from disarmament back to rearmament.
Military technology advanced rapidly during these two decades. Engineers and leaders debated the best ways to use new inventions. On land, they discussed how to use armored and motorized forces alongside traditional infantry and artillery. In the air, experts debated whether to use planes for strategic bombing or for close air support on the front lines. In the navy, there was a debate over whether battleships would remain dominant or if naval aviation would make them obsolete. These debates were eventually resolved through the practical experience of World War II. The period saw a shift from traditional line-based warfare toward more mobile and mechanized combat.
