International Date Line

geography Maturity 11-13 Next article →

There is a special line on Earth.

International Date Line
International Date Line

It sits in the big Pacific Ocean. This line shows where one day ends. It shows where the next day starts.

Crossing the line changes the date. If you go west, you add a day. If you go east, you take a day away.

Many islands live near this line. Some islands see the new day first. Other islands see it much later.

This line is not a real thing in the water. It is a line made on maps. It helps people agree on the date.

It is a very helpful tool for our world.
