Most people who speak it live in Iceland. It is the national language there.

This way of talking is very old. It comes from a language called Old Norse. It has stayed much the same for a long time.

Because it is so old, it is special. People can still read stories from long ago. These stories are called sagas.

It is different from English. The words change based on how they are used. This helps show what words mean.

People celebrate this language every year. They have a special day to honor a poet. It is a proud way to speak.
