Ibn Kathir was a famous scholar. He lived in Syria. He was born in a village near Damascus. He lost his father when he was very young. His brother helped teach him about law. Later, he studied with great teachers like Ibn Taymiyya.

Ibn Kathir wrote many books. His most famous work is a book about the Quran. This book helps people understand the holy text. He used a special way to explain it. He focused on using stories from the Prophet. He also tried to avoid stories from other backgrounds. This made his work very clear.

He held a high job at the Great Mosque of Damascus. He was also a preacher in a town called Mizza. He worked very hard on his books at night. This hard work caused him to lose his sight. He became blind later in life.
