He was a poet and a philosopher who studied deep religious ideas. He is especially known for his work in Sufism, which is a spiritual path. Many people call him a saint or a great teacher. Some people even gave him the special title Shaykh al-Akbar. This title means "the Greatest Master." His ideas helped shape how many people thought about the world and God. He had a huge impact on the Muslim world for many centuries.

One of his most famous ideas was called the unity of existence.

This idea says that all things in the universe are parts of one single reality. He called this reality "the Absolute." He was the first person to explain this idea so clearly. He also wrote many books to share his thoughts with others. People say he wrote about 850 works in total. We still have about 400 of those books today.

This area was part of al-Andalus at that time. He was born around July or August of the year 1165. His father was named 'Ali ibn Muhammad and worked for a ruler. When Ibn 'Arabi was only seven years old, his family had to move. They moved from Murcia to the city of Seville. As a young boy, he actually liked playing in military camps. He preferred playing with friends over reading books at first.

As he grew up, his life changed because of a special vision. He began to study under many important teachers and scholars. He traveled a very long way to learn more about his faith. He went on a holy journey called a Hajj to Mecca. He spent three years living in Mecca and writing there.
