Playing as a striker requires great skill and timing. Rush was very good at finding the net. In his first season at Liverpool, he scored 30 goals in 49 games. This means he scored a goal roughly every 1.6 matches. He once scored four goals in a single game against Everton. This was a huge record for a Merseyside derby. He even helped his team win the League and FA Cup double in 1986. During that big game, he was named the Man of the Match.

Rush started his career at a club called Chester. He was born in St Asaph in 1961. In 1980, he helped Chester reach the last 16 of the FA Cup. This was a very successful run for the team. Liverpool saw his talent and wanted to sign him. They paid £300,000 for the 19-year-old player. At that time, this was a record fee for a teenager. It remained Chester's biggest sale until the club went bankrupt in 2010.

His career took him to many different places. In 1986, he moved to Italy to play for Juventus. This was a big challenge because Italian teams used very tight defenses. He scored eight goals in 29 games for the Italian club. He later returned to Liverpool in 1988 for £2.7 million. This was a new record for an English club at the time. He also played for teams like Leeds United and Newcastle United. He even played in Sydney, Australia, for Sydney Olympic.

Even after he stopped playing, Rush stayed close to the sport. He retired from professional play in the year 2000. After that, he became a manager for Chester City. He also worked as a television pundit. A pundit is someone who talks about sports on TV. He uses his knowledge to help viewers understand the games. People still remember him as a legendary player for Wales and Liverpool. He remains a very important figure in soccer history.
